Original Spanish version of a quote by Miguel de Cervantes
Hi,
It's my first post here and I hope I am in the right section. I am desperate to find the original version of the quote by Miguel de Cervantes from Don Quixote - "There were no embraces, because where there is great love there is often little display of it" Thanks a lot! |

No se abrazaron unos a otros, porque donde hay mucho amor no suele haber demasiada desenvoltura.
Source looks like it's probably the original text - if it's been modernised, then it was to a version of Spanish which is still rather antiquated. |

pjt33 Thank you so much!
I was hoping to use it as a title in a letter I am writing. The english version sounds quite romantic, I wonder if the original version has exactly the same meaning? You mentioned it's rather antiquated are you saying the meaning may not be understood or be relevant these days? |

The problem is the word desenvoltura. In spite the DRAE keeps an entry with a meaning similar to the intended one (impudicia, liviandad; similar to the old desahogo, libertad, "impudicia de liviandad" -meaning any manifestation of affection is suspected to be a bit lascivious) nowadays nobody is going to understand it that way -the way the modern English version uses-.
