Madre de Acogida

People,

I came across this expression madre de acojida. Is this the same as foster mother?

Is there such a term as madre adoptiva? What would be the difference ?

For what I could find, "familia de acogida" is similar to a "foster family": a child goes into a foster family so it will grow up in a family environment when its biological family can't take care of it.
"Familia adoptiva" is used when the child has been legally adopted.
