Ponerle el Dedo a Alguien

En una de las canciones del cantante mexicano Ramón Ayala, el estribillo dice:

“Es que la vecina me puso el dedo.”

¿Puede alguien explicarme el significado de “Es que la vecina me puso el dedo.”? Podría entender la canción mejor si entiendo por seguro lo que significa el estribillo.

My neighbor pointed me out? My neighbor gave me up? My neighbor accused me? No estoy seguro.

Parte de la estroba dice:

“Cómo supo mi suegro
de que de aquí soy el mero mero.”

“Es que la vecina me puso el dedo.”

“Cómo se dio cuenta tu hermano
de que yo a él no le tengo miedo.”

“Es que la vecina me puso el dedo.”

¿Es esta una frase común o sólo se usa en canciones?

"Poner el dedo" is an expression from Mexico, analogue to the slang verb "finger [the culprit]" meaning "denounce, inform on someone" or "tell on someone".

There are at least a dozen expression used regionally meaning the same. This one if from Mexico. In Buenos Aires we'd say "la vecina me botoneó", from "botón", one of many old slang variations for "cop" now used just to describe a "whistle-blower" or "informer".

Gracias a aleCcowaN and Bobbert.
Just heard that song, and had the same question. Google lead me to this website. So, I'm new to Tomisimo!
Often have questions about idioms, figures of speech or slang, and old Church record Spanish, (genealogy). I will tell my other second language Spanish cousins and friends about this site.
Que padre!
