Que Kafka lo apoyase

Hola a todos,

La frase en cuestión es del libro Tinta invisible de Javier Peña.

De día trabajaba para una compañía de seguros, un empleo que detestaba. Allí se empapó del absurdo de la burocracia, que convertiría en el símbolo del absurdo de la existencia. En la oficina estimaban a Kafka, no creo que lo amasen ni lo lla- masen amigo, pero tampoco nadie lo consideraba su enemigo. Era un hombre introvertido pero afable; sus demonios estaban dentro de él. Cuando Max Brod abrazó el sionismo e intentó que Kafka lo apoyase, él le respondió: ¿Qué tengo yo en común con los judíos si casi no tengo nada en común conmigo mismo?

Does "que Kafka lo apoyase" mean that Brod simply wanted Kafka to support him, to support his decision to adopt zionism?

Or does it mean Brod wanted Kafka to adopt zionism too?
