This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for January 13, 2009
portaretrato - masculine noun (el) - picture frame. Look up portaretrato in the dictionary Generalmente usamos un portaretrato para lucir la foto de un ser querido. We normally use a picture frame to display a loved one's picture.

Yes, it's usually used for the people in worldwide, I believe the people musts the computer for keep their pictures of loved one's.

I have heard that that vulgarly but hilariously portaretrato can mean
toilet seat. I have heard this term is commonly used in Mexico. Was I misinformed

I never heard that sentence, the word portaretrato is correctly used at my country, but what you say above of the other meaning about portaretrato, as I said before, never but never I have heard that meaning in my short live.

More commonly you would here marco (frame).
Portaretrato makes me think of the thing being in a shop, an attendant helping someone to choose one, or a wedding gift list. |

Yeah, I was going to mention that marco is used in Central America. Perhaps portaretrato is yet another mexicanismo.
