More commonly you would hear the verb ayudar used instead of auxiliar. Is the 'x' pronounced like an 'x' of a 'j'? I think the 'x' is pronounced.

first aid= primer auxilio


Ayúdame and socorro are really good words to know. I think people may
be puzzled if you say auxíliame

Sí creo que ayudar es mucho más común

Yo las auxilié crecer a las plantas por (by) las dar mucha aqua. Ellas ma dan muchas flores.

I agree with you both. "Ayudar" is more common than "auxiliar", though "auxiliar" is used above all when there is a sort of accident or someone is hurt or even lost, in the mountain or in the forest, for instance.

Auxilar is also an adjective:

Haber es un verbo auxiliar.

Or a noun:

Cuando vas en avión ya no puedes llamar a la azafata, sino al auxiliar de vuelo.

"X" in "auxiliar" is pronounced like "ks".

In Mexico we know it as "primeros auxilios", in plural.

It depends on the situation, but people would actually scream "¡Auxilioooooo!" when they're faced to danger.

"Auxiliar", as irmamar has said, is rather to help in a situation of emergency, so in other cases, "ayudar" will be better.
