Pantufla
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for August 14, 2009
pantufla (feminine noun (la)) — slipper. Look up pantufla in the dictionary Cuando hace frío uso mis pantuflas para caminar en la casa. When it's cold I wear my slippers to walk around the house.

Aquí se usa zapatilla (de casa). Pantuflas, aunque se entiende, se oye bastante poco.

En francés dicen pantoufles. Probablemente en el siglo XIX se diría pantuflas.

I'm aware of the word zapatilla but a more common term here in
chancleta. Pantufla is new to me.

@Poli: "Chancla", as understood in Mexico, is rather an old shoe. "Chancleta" is a flip-flop, and despite the fact that it can be used for wandering at home, "pantuflas" is much better for "slippers".
Mis pantuflas peludas son lo más cómodo que existe en el mundo. My fluffy slippers are the most comfortable thing in the world.
