Please check my por/para homework
Please only check the "por" y "para". I had a bit of trouble with some of these, and I think that several are a bit idiomatic. Muchas gracias!
13. Por esa época, vos todavía no habías nacido. 14. Poné esos libros por ahí. 15. Para vos es muy fácil decir eso. 16. Estoy para llamarlo y decirle que no puedo ir. 17. Mi contrato termina para abril. 18. Esto no va a servir para nada. 19. Nos vamos a encontrar por la tarde. 20. Vine a la fiesta solamente para vos. 21. Fue castigado por tu culpa. 22. Está todo por resolver. (Note: I am in Buenos Aires studying Spanish, thus the use of "vos" and the conjugations in the second person singular correspond.)

I'll let others who know what they are talking about be more specific, but what about the last one - surely that indicates purpose, thus para ?
I hope you are having fun, by the way. |

@Perikles: Sometimes "por" is used to express the idea that something is missing, and one has to do it. That's how it's used when one says "cuentas por pagar" (they must be payed), "asuntos por resolver" (they need to be solved), etc.

Thanks, all. Perikles, I will never ignore you. Even if you ask me to do so.
Hernán - for the ones with asterisks, what would be the subtleties in differences of meaning for using por or para? Malila - I was stuck on #5.... Your comments on #11 and #20 make perfect sense to me. #16 is idiomatic, right? We weren't given these idiomatic phrases in class, so I looked them up online somewhere. What is the sense of saying "Estar por/para..." De hecho, I didn't understand the sentence as a whole with either, so I was essentially guessing.... #17 - I didn't like either por or para there, either. It really seemed to want an "en", but the exercise was for por/para solamente.....

Siempre hace calor para navidad.- At the time of Christmas it is always hot. Siempre hacer calor por navidad. - By the time of Christmas it is always hot. Estoy por llamarlo y decirle que no puedo ir. - I am about to call you and tell you that I cannot go. Estoy para llamarlo...- I am (here) to call you (at your service) That's what I am here for.... |

#5: You're talking about a woman who is not very young and still looks good.
If you use "por", you make her age a cause for looking good, which makes no sense, since older women are supposed to look bad. Check definition No. 5 of "para" at the DRAE. #16: No, it's not idiomatic. It's a future action. Check definition No. 24 of "por" at the DRAE. #17: I'd use "por" then, which would mean that you're not sure about the exact date. But as Hernán says, for passing exams, write what your teachers say is correct.
