Just because you__doesn't mean you__
Fill in the blank with a verb (Just because you read doesn't mean you understand/ just because you hear doesn't mean you listen/ just because
you can doesn't mean you should, etc). How would you translate this Here's my attempt and I'm not sure it works. Si se le da leer no significa que entiende (se le da entiender).

I'd translate "Just because" as "Simplemente por el hecho de que (lo leas, etc.). Isn't there some "it" (and that?) lacking? Just because you read it, it doesn't mean that you understand it. Or maybe I'm wrong with my translation. |

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't answer correctly. Like Poli says "it" would be used for an specific document or whatever is it that is being read. My answer was concerning "that". Last edited by chileno; October 01, 2010 at 11:35 AM. |

Su pregunta de la palabra it y por que no lo usé en mis frases: En esto me parece que hay una diferencia entre inglés y español. En inglés se puede decir just because can read doesn't mean you understand, y significa leer en general. Por estar más específico se dice just because you can read it (un documento legal por ejemplo) doesn't mean you can understand it. I hope this helps.

También he oído:
"No porque lo leas significa que lo entiendas." |
