I see you used "between" in your example and there are more than two elements. Would you mind to you explain to me why?

To wit (mine, as short as it might be):

Among = two elements

Amongst = three and up elements

Between = two and up elements

It is perfectly acceptable English. I suppose you would imagine taking two individuals from the crowd and comparing each pair directly. Whichever two you compare, there is a difference between them.

1) among and amongst are interchangeable

I was taught that, regarding among and amongst.

Right. I would never use it like that, not for comparisons.
As I understand those, they mean "in the midst".
