So you would be using 'pistas' mainly for the different leads/ clues the police is following or , being physically on a track as in the example provided e.g.

' There are different views/ notions on the leads the police should be following' for instance?

Would 'views' be translated as 'ideas' , opiniones or 'vistas' as well (or is vista only used for a litteral view as in 'a room with seaview') ?

A 'mirada' is a 'look' I think, as in how a person is looking, the look in someone' s eyes? Or is it used in another way as well?
Because ' to have a look' is I think 'echar un vistazo '

I wouldn't use vistas to describe a viewpoint/notion/view. Opiniones, ideas, modos de pensar/ver and puntos de vista work well.
Vista has other meanings, but it can certainly be used to mean a view (as in 'a room with a view of the sea'). By the way, there's another way to say "with a view of the sea" - dar al mar.

Una mirada is a glance or look. So is un vistazo. They're synonymous, but it may be that vistazo means to look a little longer. We'll need a native's opinion on that.

The face value of something can determine (or at least significantly influence) the outcome of the first glance though..
