Living in South Texas, I've found that the word-changing kind of Spanglish (as opposed to say, substituting a Spanish word into an otherwise English sentence) tends to annoy people. My grandma knew enough Spanish from her mother so that she could understand when a customer used a Spanish word every now and then, but sometimes a customer would use a lot of made-up Spanglish words and she just could not make sense of what they were trying to say.

Estos días voy un tanto atareado... así que no te corrijo las cosillas que hay que corregir en tu post... (a ver si puedo esta noche...) Por lo demás, mi madre decía algo de una canción como que... "el cariño verdadero ni se compra ni se vende..." (mi afición a Tomísimo y a sus foreros es "por amor al arte"...)
