Turismo vs. turismo

Is it necessary to use a capital letter for ‘turismo’ when it is referred to as an academic subject?

Quiero estudiar Turismo e inglés.

Mejor sin artículo, a menos que se agreguen algunos detalles:

Quiero estudiar el turismo de mi zona y el inglés hablado en mi ciudad. Cuando algo se toma como asignatura, ocurre lo mismo que con los oficios: no se colocan artículos.

Quiero estudiar filología, matemáticas, química, informática, etc.

I agree with Julvenzor about the article.
But the capital letter should be there because it's the name of the subject, even though it's common to find written texts that won't use it.
(Take a look here.)

So "quiero estudiar Turismo e Inglés".

Thanks for the correction on the article.

Also thanks for the link concerning capitalization. Very interesting. For religions, the deity and holy books are capitalized, but the name of the religion is not. For places/countries, the place or country is capitalized, but the language and nationality are not. Sounds like a mine field for the Spanish student. Thanks!
