Dejas - pronunciation differences?

Dejas - pronunciation differences?

Why does this guy pronounce the word "dejas" from the verb "dejar" as "DE-GAS"??

cada vez que te vas, me dejas el alma en un hilo
[every time you leave me, you leave the (my) soul (hanging) by a thread]


it's supposed to be the verb dejar - to leave right? dejas, confused by his pronunciation Is this something unique to Dominican Republic?
