Are you using the David's program for accents? or did you change anything in your local settings for languages lately?

Something is not converting correctly between versions of windows or whatever...

yes I am. I'm using the program for accents. I've had it for several days and only today it was weird

Character encoding. The e-mail is encoded in UTF-8 and your client appears to be treating it as ISO-8859-1. Probably a bug in the server's mailer code.

Can you view full headers in the e-mail and see whether it has a "Content-Type:" header?

Hans Christian Andersen's classic... I used to cry a lot as a child when I read it. Here I've seen it translated as "La vendedora de cerillas" (even though in Mexico it's "cerillos", of course). Those must have been Spanish translations.
