it's ok, but maybe better:
Un día alguien me dió un billete falsificado. Fui al banco a/para reclamar, pero no me dieron un billete auténtico / no me quisieron dar un billete auténtico.

Un "billete falso" también se puede decir.

We use the words to forge or to conterfeit coins, banknotes, passports, works of art etc. Heptonstall,a village near me was once famous (or infamous) for a gang of coiners, who used to shave a little off the gold coins. They would then mill the edges again to make them look new.
Their "King" David Hartley, was subsequently hanged for murder in 1770 and buried in the churchyard.
