There is in recent times

My sentence:

-There is in recent times a strong tendency to bring a Teddy bear to accompany you to school.

I somehow feel it natural to use IS even when RECENT is there, which time phrase seems to require the past or present prefect; is my sentence natural?

It's perfectly natural to say "there is in recent times."
A "teddy bear" has no capital letter unless it begins a sentence.

I would substitute "with you" for "to accompany you."
