era y fue
Hola a todos:
¿Me podrían corregir lo siguiente, por favor? 1. 3. Last edited by gramatica; July 02, 2008 at 12:50 PM. |

All of the following sound good to me:
Estuviste maravillosa. Muchas gracias por la comida. Estuvo riquísima. Era/fue una muy buena película. Let me expound on some of the differences. For example the food-- estuvo rica-- If your main topic is the food and it's quality, you'd say estuvo rica, but if your main topic is something else, you can use estaba rica. My main topic is the fact that I wan't able to enjoy my meal, and that's what's in the preterit, the rest is in imperfect. But if you main topic is the food, you'd say: Muchas gracias, estuvo riquísima. Let's take a look at Era/fue una muy buena película. If you say Fue una muy buena película, it means you just saw it and you liked it. If you say Era una muy buena pelicula, you're reminiscing: That sure was a good movie, (but it's not in the theaters anymore for example). The main point here is that in many cases the preterit (fue/estuvo/etc) and the imperfect (era/estaba/etc) are both correct, but they have different nuances.

Thank you very much
Could you please tell me if one could say the following? 1. 3. If you word "Estuvo muy difícil y se me acabó el tiempo" with a "pero," would you use the imperfect? That is, would you say "Estaba muy fácil, pero se me acabó el tiempo" to indicate that the test was first easy, but in the end, I ran out of time? 4. Te vi/oí cantar. Estuviste maravillosa. Can you also say "Te oí cantar. Estabas maravillosa" or "Te oí cantar y estabas maravillosa" to indicate that the main acction was "Te oí cantar"? If you use "te oí cantar y estuviste maravillosa" or "te oí cantar. Estuviste maravillosa," does that mean that both were just as important and they were both punctual actions that finished in the past? 5. Is this the same idea as the previous example? Here, I'm saying from begining to end, he was smart, right? 7. Here, I'm saying he was smart and indicating that he still is, right? 8. -¿Cuál es el rió más grande de X? -X -¿Cómo lo sabías/supiste?=How did you know? Could you please give me some more examples where the imperfect and the preterit can both be used, but they have slightly different meanings, or do you know of a good book or website that covers this? Thank you very much Last edited by gramatica; July 03, 2008 at 10:31 AM. |
