"los rasgos se amoldaban a su rostro"

"los rasgos se amoldaban a su rostro"

I have the passage below and most of it is making sense except the bold phrase.

The definitions I find of the word "amoldar" don't seem to fit, and the translator says "the features matched her face", but that seems to fall apart when it's followed up by "but there were no doubts regarding the origin".

"Miré la foto y me fijé en su particular mirada, en esos ojos que sin poder explicarlo había visto antes en algún sitio, hasta que finalmente caí en la cuenta dónde los había visto, me sentí una estúpida, la mirada de aquella muchacha era igual a la de mi madre, los rasgos se amoldaban a su rostro, pero no había dudas en cuanto a la procedencia. La misma caída de ojos, la fuerza que desbordaban, eran la viva imagen de la mirada de mi madre antes de la muerte de mi padre, cuando aún era ella y la enfermedad no la había secuestrado."

I would say "the features conformed (adapted/adjusted) to her face."
The pronominal verb amoldarse can mean conform (as in adapting or adjusting) to a particular/specific guideline.
