What are the multiple translations for " Estudio Español"?

So as part of the class introduction, one of the questions is why are you taking spanish. This is my response: "Estoy estudiando español 102 por que tomé español 101. My teacher says this : One question that I would like for you to answer is what does Estudio español mean? It translates to 3 different sentences. I ask because it is important for you to understand because you used Estoy estudiando.. and it is being used incorrectly." Then points out the other meanings are in present tense

I answered that estudio español means "I study spanish" but wasnt sure about the other 2 meanings. I ended up with " Spanish studio" and " I study Spaniards" .

You can safely say estudio español to mean, I study Spanish. If you wish to be very precise you can say estudio el idioma español which translates as, I study the Spanish language.

Here are three English translations of "Estudio español."

I study Spanish.
I do study Spanish.
I'm studying Spanish.

There is also one more translation of the Spanish present tense into English. It is used to express the 'near future'.
I will (soon) study Spanish.

'Estoy estudiando' is not the present tense; it's called the progressive/continuous form, and is used when you are in the very act of doing something.
