I think there are many ways of saying this, depending on the context.

Some suggestions:

I'm looking forward to graduation.
Sólo estoy esperando la graduación.
Ya quiero graduarme. / Ya quiero que sea la graduación.

Juan is looking forward to visiting Mexico.
Juan está muy ilusionado con su viaje a México.
Juan tiene muchas ganas de viajar a México.
Juan quiere viajar pronto a México.

We're looking forward to a raise of salary.
Queremos que pronto nos aumenten en sueldo.
Ojalá pronto nos aumenten el sueldo.
Queremos que ya nos aumenten el sueldo.

Hmmm, while I concur these are not exactly model phrases, I would like to know if people express themselves like this in England, because I have heard more than a couple of people here in the US, express themselves like this.

Maybe I am wrong too.

I can only say what is correct English English is. Above, a is good English English, but a is not. Perhaps you have heard people in the USA using some slang such as

I am so looking forward to ...

Now personally I think this is terrible , but it is personal choice.
