Rise - raise

In English
Raise - transitive, needs object - I raise the flag
Rise - intransitive, no object - The sun rises in the east

123TeachMe uses levantar for both:
¿A qué hora te levantabas?
What time did you used to get up?
Ayúdeme a levantar la madera.
Help me lift the wood.

LearnWithOliver has:
Todo el mundo sabe que el sol sale por el Este.
Everyone knows that the sun rises in the east.
Seems like that would be sets not rise.

I am confused, AGAIN.

The first part should cause no trouble: the verb "levantar" gives the idea of something/someone going up. It's both transitive and intransitive.

- Hoy me levanté muy contenta.
I got up happy today.

- Levanta tus juguetes.
Pick up your toys.

- El viento casi me levantó del suelo.
The wind almost lifted me up from the floor.

As for the sun and the moon, we prefer "salir", as if they came out of nowhere, but you can very well say "el sol se levanta por el oriente".
By the way, another word for "oriente" is "levante".

Interesting. So;
El sol sale por el este y se pone por el oeste.
