correr un tupido velo = draw a veil over something

draw a thick veil over something
draw a concrete veil over something

Also see 'keep something under raps', 'sweep something under the rug' and 'cloud over the fact'. These all can be used when you want to hide the fact that you've done something that could be embarrassing if discovered.

Nosotros también decimos "dar la vuelta a la página" o, más habitualmente, "pasar página". Pero creo que tiene un significado un poco diferente. "Correr un tupido velo" se refiere a algo que no quieres recordar o que no es conveniente recordar o comentar; "pasar página" significa "empezar de nuevo", olvidar la vida pasada o los últimos acontecimientos. Me da la impresión de que "correr un tupido velo" alude a cosas/hechos más concretos.
