"This is the type of injustice (unfairness) that irritates the mexicans. It appears to them that the locals are unjustly offended by the mexicans, since it bothers them that the mexicans work long shifts for whatever salary is available."

Is "ya que" translated here by "since", or does it refer to something else? My translation seems kind of awkward.

Thanks

That's correct, Tacuba.

Ya que = porque = dado que ...

What worries the locals from Mexicans taking such long shifts for any salary is that they feel salaries tend to stay low. Mexicans are irritated that they're blamed for this situation.
