Deshuesadero

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for May 5, 2009

deshuesadero (masculine noun (el)) — junkyard. Look up deshuesadero in the dictionary

Vamos a un deshuesadero para buscar la pieza que necesito.
Let's go to a junkyard to look for the part I need.

Juswt learnt a new word. We don't use deshuesadero in Spain, maybe chatarrería, cementerio de coches...

Yes, new word for me too. I have a feeling it's only used in México. When I googled it only Wiki and Mexican pages came up. I haven't found it in any dictionary.
Another equivalent, apart from those mentioned: desguace

Just in my country the word deshuesadero is correctly used between the Mexican people, therefore the word chaterreria is where the people sells the iron old.

In fact the word junkyard is very used in the border with the U.S.A. then you can figure the word junkyard as a necessary expression in my country already exist the other word chatarreria but as I have told you only there is gathered the iron old of the city.

Then here in my country you can't say, Pablo let's go to the Chatarria for one piece of my car. This is incorrect.

The correct way is. Pablo let's go to the junkyard for the piece that I need for my car.

So, in Mexico, it sounds like Chatarria is a scrap-yard, and deshuesadero (boy that's a mouth-full) is a junkyard.

I think so.

Besides, deshuesadero would be related to huesos and not to metal, however I guess they use it to describe the car to be totally in its frame/esqueleto?
