Does this mean I'm staying where I am. If it does than you can say, I'm staying put.

Does this mean I am not changing my mind? If so you can say, I'm sticking to my guns.

Please explain what this phrase means so that we can give you a more
accurate definition.

It means, sth like, Since it´s very short time to be here, I´ll do what I want, regardless of the consequences. For example at work.

I guess it is kind of not so easy to translate into English, as it shows a very irresponsible attitude, only displayed by us, the Spaniards...

Like "I couldn't care less about anything"
Literally, "given that I am not going to be here, at this convent [nunnery, monastery...] very long time, I may as well have a crap in it".

I.e., not only one does not care about the job one is doing, but have the nerve to make a mess out of it.

It's definitely not a good attitude to have. It seems that this is an attitude of someone who is very unhappy and/or very selfish.

JPablo,
I think an irresponsible attitude can be found in every culture. There are people that just don't think too much about the short and/or long term consequences related to their actions.

I guess you are right. Unfortunate, but true.
