Televisión vs televisor

Tengo que arreglar la televisión / la tele.

Should this not be: ‘el televisor’?

Many thanks.

You're right. It should (unless your remote controls PBS, CBS or HBO )

Televisor is correct, but somewhere between a lot and most people would say "la tele" even when they are referring to object.

When you use "el televisor", it sounds like you're saying "the television set" as opposed to "the tv".

"La tele(visión)" is commonly said in Mexico instead of "el televisor". (I suppose this comes from "ver la tele(visión)". I suppose most people never knew there was a difference between the device and the signal.)
Also, we say "escuchar el radio" instead of "la radio". (Just for the sake of word gender balance.)
