Exhibition/exposition

Are the words exhibición and exposición interchangeable when used to mean a presentation as in a museum? I see the word exposición a lot for this purpose and I wonder if exhibición should not be used in this case.

In principle, "exhibición" is used for activities that are shown to a certain public, and "exposición" refers to objects that are displayed to be seen; so the "correct" expressions would be something like "exhibición de danza" and "exposición de esculturas", but lately people tend to use "exhibición" for objects, like in "exhibición de arte", and it's commonly accepted. However, I have never heard "exposición de acrobacia".
