Una discusión fuerte

Tuvimos una discusión tan fuerte que...
We had such a big argument that...

May I say "a strong discussion" instead?

Thanks.

Not really, no. You could say:

such a big row
such a bust-up
such a heated discussion
.

I'll try to remember, 'big argument' could be understood in Spanish as "un buen argumento", nothing to do with its meaning.

I think that some people use the word "discussion" with a verbal inflection that "tongue-in-cheek" implies an argument. Some people will say "My husband I had a discussion about that..." and the way it is said, it is implied that it was an argument.
