Quote:
Motion of Censure? That is a guess. I think it is a motion used when there is a lack of confidence in the leader? They are trying to remove him from office? Perhaps it is similar to "impeachment" in the United States? All of this is from my poor translation of a Wikipedia page, so take it with a grain of salt. |

Confidence vote is another way of saying a vote of confidence. Either term is used in a situation where the right of a leader ( in political organization or any other type of association) to lead or direct is questioned. The vote of confidence or confidence vote seeks to determine whether the leader should continue to lead or be removed. Such a vote expresses satisfaction or dissatisfaction with a leader or person in a position of authority. Whether an individual wins or loses a vote of confidence or confidence vote determines whether the individual should continue in his/her current position or should vacate or give up the position accordingly.
A vote of confidence arises after the questionable actions or statements of a leader. A motion of censure is stronger than a confidence vote. With a motion of censure there is a strong implication that someone (leader or member of a team) has behaved inappropriately (speech or deed) and therefore deserves to be chastised/punished or seriously warned or cautioned so that there would be no recurrence of the inappropriate behavior. Hope I helped to shed light on vote of confidence and motion of censure. Last edited by Rusty; December 14, 2010 at 09:03 PM. Reason: merged back-to-back posts |

Copied directly from a news article today about student politics in the UK:
At least 25 student unions have to pass a motion before a vote of no confidence can be considered. Full story, for more context: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20101214/...o-45dbed5.html |
