Ensayo
Me gusta mi trabajo. Le agradecería ayuda with the little essay. ¡Muchas gracias! Last edited by Rusty; October 26, 2011 at 09:25 PM. Reason: made it its own thread |

Good job!
veo a (not sure why - set expression?) cuatro pacientes This is called the 'personal a'. It's used anytime the direct object refers to a human being (and sometimes, pets). ayudarles (verb and object pronoun - les for los dientes?) con los dientes The direct object pronoun refers to the gente. One may argue that a singular form of the pronoun is appropriate here, since gente is singular, but it sounds better to my ear to use the plural form. Could I also say 'para diagnosticar'? Yes. Would I be able to use it this way? 'tiene dolor debido la hinchazón de la mandíbula' The word debido is followed by the preposition a in this case (debido a = due to, owing to, because of, on account of). So, 'tiene dolor debido a la hinchazón de la mandíbula' is the correct phrase. comienzo a cocinar Some verbs must be followed by a preposition when an infinitive follows. This is one of those verbs, and the preposition is a. tiene mucha (not sure why? I thought muy before an adjective?) hambre If the verb were estar, then yes, muy would be used. But the verb is tener. "He has a lot of hunger." para el trabajo (I could also say para negocios?) Yes. dormirme (not sure why it's needed, doesn't the verb form indicate that I talk about myself?) The verb dormir means 'sleep'. The verb dormirse means 'fall asleep'. The pronominal verb form isn't reflexive in this case. There's nothing wrong with using the non-pronominal form, but I thought it sounded better to say 'I read before falling asleep' (especially when this sentence is changed to the past tense). |

Very helpful, I appreciate it.
Gotcha, thank you. tiene mucha (not sure why? I thought muy before an adjective?) hambre If the verb were estar, then yes, muy would be used. But the verb is tener. "He has a lot of hunger." Oh I see. So it's another noun vs adjective then. In this case hambre is a noun and hence doesn't necessarily need muy? dormirme (not sure why it's needed, doesn't the verb form indicate that I talk about myself?) The verb dormir means 'sleep'. The verb dormirse means 'fall asleep'. The pronominal verb form isn't reflexive in this case. There's nothing wrong with using the non-pronominal form, but I thought it sounded better to say 'I read before falling asleep' (especially when this sentence is changed to the past tense). I'll have to do some more reading on the reflexive verbs. I didn't realise it could be used this way. Again, thank you so much for your time. |

You're welcome, again.
Research pronominal verbs. There are several types, one of which is the reflexive verb. The adverb muy can modify a noun, but not after the verb tener. It doesn't make sense in English to say "He has very hunger. " You must use the adjective mucho/a. "He has a lot of hunger. " |
