A couple questions about this passage
I have the passage below, and am confused by the highlighted parts.
The first part, "no te creas": I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean here. I get that it literally means basically "don't believe" or "don't think", but that doesn't seem to make sense here. I get the sense that it is similar to saying "Don't think I didn't" or "You better believe it". Is that right or is it something else? The second part is the use of "qué". I feel like the unaccented "que" should be used here instead, since it basically reads as "I thought that she was referring to...". I don't know why the accented version is used. |

You're right about that "qué". It's a typo and it should be "que".
"No te creas" is a set expression. It's normally used to deny a previous situation. Here, she denies what she believes it's an assumption made by the narrator, like saying "don't think I am an insensitive person". You see me old and alone, but don't believe I was always like this, I had a lot of suitors. Martin is always reading, but don't believe he's just a book worm, he is also a great dancer. Also, you may find the expression "no te creas" to state that something you said was a joke and you didn't really mean it. - No te invito a mi casa, porque me caes mal. Ja, ja, ja. No te creas. I won't invite you to come to my house, because I don't like you. Haha. I'm only kidding. - Te voy a regalar cien mil pesos. Ah, no te creas. Nomás quería ver qué cara ponías. I'm going to give you 100,000 pesos. Hah, just joking. I only wanted to see your face.
