How interesting, sometimes I think that Spanish and English have a lot in common. Thanks POLI.

A huge number of these expressions are probably loan translations, i.e. one language has borrowed a metaphor from the other. It is sometimes difficult to know which way round, but it does not necessarily mean that the languages have a lot in common just because they steal each other's ideas.

¿Hay una expresión parecida para decir '(living) hand to mouth'?

Yes, living from hand to mouth is an expression that means just making enough money to survive and not a penny more.
