De vez en cuando X de cuando en cuando

What's the difference between them? It'll help a lot if you can supply with examples.

According to this page on wiktionary, they mean the same thing. Another synonym is "a veces".

I don't recall hearing or reading "de cuando en cuando" before; I've generally heard and used "de vez en cuando" and "a veces".

Thanks for your reply. Is wiktionary a good source for Spanish word/idiom? I searched on the net before posting, but wiktionary did not come up in the first few result pages.

Me too, never saw de cuando en cuando until now, we learn something every day.

Presenta un uso más bien literario; pero tampoco es imposible oírlo en una charla entre letrados o encontrarlo en artículos.

Un saludo.
