This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for May 12, 2009

atrasar (verb) — to be slow, slow down, set back. Look up atrasar in the dictionary

Hay que atrasar el reloj una hora en el otoño.
One must set the clock back an hour in the fall.

Atrasar is used for time not for speed.
Slow down (vehicle) - "ralentizar" or "ir más despacio"
Usted debe ir más despacio.

El reloj va atrasado. Ha perdido media hora.

Voy atrasado. Son las cinco y la reunión es en dos minutos. No llegaré a tiempo.

Ambarina is correct and I would like to add that "atrasar" relates to delay and late.
