To have something in common
Tener algo en común.
Tener varias cosas en común. I just saw, tener coincidencias. Does that have the same meaning? Is it commonly used?

Yes, these expressions seem rather common to me.
And widely used. Pretty natural, from my viewpoint.

Different contexts, though
tener en común (lista de cosas en común) = they share (e.g. their passion for ...) tener algo en común (a single something: on one hand, a property, a kid; on the other hand, something abstract, like being phlegmatic, or being passionate about cars) tener cosas en común (a list of things: on one hand, goods and relatives; on the other hand, a shared history) tener mucho en común (to share many interests or have similar traits)

Coincidencia is just one of those cognates that don't always match their English equivalents. Thanks.
