En este contexto valdrían tanto "pedir su número" como "preguntar su número" (sin "por"). Los hispanohablantes elegimos uno u otro según la intención. Solemos usar "preguntar" si sólo queremos saberlo por una cuestión informativa: llamar a un hotel, a una administración pública, etc., es decir, no mostramos un interés por la persona. En cambio, empleamos "pedir" si el número nos interesa por el hecho de pertenecer a esta persona: quedar con una bella muchacha, reunirse con el jefe de una gran empresa, etc. Un saludo cordial. |
