Gustar and similar verbs

Just when I think I understand something!

Me gusta la comida.
A el le gusta la comida.

No problem but many sites like StudySpanish.com say you only use gusta and gustan. I am very confused about the rest of the conjugation of gustar and like verbs.

Por ejemplo Me gusta a Maria. I like Maria or Maria is pleasing to me.
How do I say "Maria likes me"? It seems so simple yet confusing.

How would you use some of the other conjugations of gustar, gusto, gustamos etc.

I know it's simple when you understand it I sure don't. Thanks, Bob Ritter
