Priviledged wrist. The best wicker [willow] to be able to make the best basketwork. (I do not know if this was written before or after his defeat, but it is just metaphoric language.) That is, he still has a very skillful and trained wrist. And he has with him (lean muscle, basic components... whatever are his basic physical/mental and spiritual make-up...) the potential to be able to "make the best basket", ie. to do his job as the great craftsman he is. (Like the Phoenix, he can be reborn from his ashes... although no one says he is over... I bet he is going to get it together to give a good fight at Flushing Meadows, New York.)

Thanks for that, the context is here. To me, the expression 'privileged wrists' makes no sense, well not much sense.
Edit: I've just realised that privilegiado can mean exceptional. This explains it. That's why it looks strange in English, because privileged does not mean that. Last edited by Perikles; July 01, 2010 at 03:25 AM. |

Ah, thank you for the context! Wow, these guys at El País... or rather JUAN JOSÉ MATEO gives quite a "fatalistic" headline, and then with small letters at the end, says Federer will come back... or "we always wait for him" or "expect him to come back". Okay. Yes, I am Rafa Nadal fan, but I know Roger, with 29 years, will be around on top of the chart for other 4 or 5 years easily...
Good point on 'privileged'! Yes, it is "exceptional". It is good to learn that 'privileged' only has definition 2 in Moliner in English. 2 adj. y n. Se aplica al que o lo que goza un privilegio. Yes, in this context, "it applies to someone/something exceptionally well endowed of natural qualities" "superior or specially good" (intelligence/memory) 3 adj. Se aplica a algo que está excepcionalmente bien dotado de cualidades naturales: ‘Un ser privilegiado. Un lugar privilegiado’. Superior o especialmente bueno; se aplica en especial a «*inteligencia» y «*memoria». Valle Inclán, in Luces de Bohemia has one of his characters saying all the time, "¡Cráneo privilegiado!" which now I know is not "Privileged skull!" but rather "Exceptional Intelligence!" (ie, "what a smart Alek!")

Quería una frase más corta que "Me parece muy probable que ya sepas" pero dejando algo de incertidumbre.

@Perikles: "privilegiado" in Spanish is not only a synonym of "afortunado", "favorito", "opulento", "rico"...
We use it as a synonym of "excelente", "extraordinario", "sobresaliente"...
