WHITE in the moon the long road lies,
-----------------------------
WHITE in the moon the long road lies, The moon stands blank above; White in the moon the long road lies That leads me from my love. Blanco en la luna yace el largo sendero, La luna se torna vacía en lo alto; Blanco en la luna yace el largo sendero Que me guía desde mi amor. Still hangs the hedge without a gust, Still, still the shadows stay: My feet upon the moonlit dust Pursue the ceaseless way. Todavía cuelga el seto sin una ráfaga, Todavía, todavía están las sombras: Mis pies sobre el polvo de la luna Siguen el incesante camino. The world is round, so travellers tell, And straight though reach the track, Trudge on, trudge on, ’twill all be well, The way will guide one back. El mundo es circular, eso cuentan los viajantes, Y aunque se empesinen en una huella recta. -> Dunno Dunno... Dunno... But ere the circle homeward hies Far, far must it remove: White in the moon the long road lies That leads me from my love. Pero antes de que el círculo me empuje a casa Lejos, lejos debe sustraerse: Blanco en la luna yace el largo sendero Que me guía desde mi amor. ----------------------------- Well... I've many questions, but I will thanks you very much if you can correct it all... This are SOME questions: 1) That leads me from my love. Desde? De? Hasta? I can't guess it... I think "hasta" is ok, but "from" with that meaning... 2) Still hangs the hedge without a gust, I'm having a problem here, my translation sounds bad... 3) The third paragraph... it's very difficult for me. Can you help me translating it all? 4) Far, far must it remove: I'm missing a meaning of that word? Thank you very much in advance!

From as in away. That leads me away from my love.
Not sure one the next one. A gust is short strong wind. The third, while I wouldn't be any good translating it, means he must carry on. Trudge on Trudge on. A trudge is walking or marching with great difficulty. In this case it's the writers mind that makes the journey difficult because he's away from his love. In the fourth it's as if the journey is what is removing him from his love. It's a circle because he's going to come back and the farther he travels away the bigger the circle becomes. I don't know what hies means. |

Thanks you Chris.
But the poem is not talking about a love, it's talking about the circular shape of things, about walking but not moving, you still, still, still... Why you translate "That leads me from my love" to "That leads me away from my love". It's really the same? I've found this in a translation: Que me guía hasta mi amor. (That leads me till my love.)

That's just kind of what I get when I read it. That it's about a guy on a journey away from who he loves.
But all literature is open to interpretation. |
