Browser Plug-in

Does anyone know of a web browser plug-in (firefox or otherwise) that operates kind of like rikaichan, but for spanish? Rikaichan is a popup dictionary for websites in Japanese. I've been looking for something similar to help read spanish websites without going back and forth to a dictionary.

That looks pretty neat! My first thought is, I wonder if I can make a plugin to work like that for Spanish.

FireFox has a QuickSearch built in folder that you could put your URL into that makes things pretty handy for just such things.

Bookmark it and then go into Organize Bookmarks and move it into the QuickSearch folder. It might be one more click away, but it makes for a neater browser bar, imo.

I usually right/click and open in new tab myself, so it doesn't reload my active window, but I think there might be a way to make the browser do that automatically.

I also recommend highly http://del.icio.us/ I really like this for having my bookmarks saved online. It also has a firefox plugin, which makes it super convenient. I open it like my homepage sometimes because everything is right there. Plus I want a homepage that loads instantly, I can't tolerate a homepage like msn or something that has to serve me up a truckload of cookies and pictures. A couple quick clicks and I can have my Delicious page.. then Spanish tag, or the Media, tag... whaever tag, everything that relates is right there fast and handy.

This makes bookmarks easy to find, and then also, I could move a whole bunch of the lesser used ones there and organize them and not have so many cluttering up my browser. Once you get it organized you can just right click any web page and "tag it" right into the Delicious organizer too.

Any questions. ? lol

Yes, I use delicious as well, it's a really useful service.

I actually looked at making a "Tomisimo" plugin for Firefox, and when I get some time I'm going to try it. It wouldn't even have to take up space on the toolbar, it would be an add-on where you could basically highlight a word on the page and have the translation pop up. It would help when reading sites in Spanish, when you run across a word you don't know.

I'll keep you updated as to the progress on this.

Yes David, that would be the best way to do it, I think, just make it so that it works like http://dictionary.reference.com/ in the Quick Reference

Thanks for the link. I looked at that site (it's a pretty nice site btw) and I could find the quick reference section you're referring to.

David, if you do plan on making a Firefox extension i strongly recommend you read: http://www.borngeek.com/firefox/toolbar-tutorial/

I'm doing an extension myself and found this really useful, when Firefox 1.5 was released they overhauled how extensions work and most of the tutorials are pre 1.5 and hence totally out of date.
By the way writing an extension is just about the most frustrating programming exercise i've ever taken so i hope you enjoy it more than i do
