Hacer más ruido el árbol al caer que el bosque al crecer
I think it means the squeaky wheel gets the grease, bad news gets all the
attention. Is this anything anyone here has heard before?

No, haven't heard it before but I really like it & will add it to my collection. Sounds to me like it could mean "Bad news travels fast."

Un empleado en una institución pública era famoso por su rectitud y puntualidad, además por haber contribuido al buen rendimiento de su oficina.
Una mañana, la primera de su vida de empleado, llegó con retraso y el jefe le llamó la atención vivazmente. Entonces el empleado pensó " este fulano le da mayor importancia al ruido del árbol que cae y no advierte el rumor del bosque que crece"
