¿He leido esas dos frases, por qué en una se dice "se" y en la otra no.?

"se me mancharon los dedos de sangre" " I got blood o bloodstains on my fingers"

"me he manchado el traje de barro/de tinta" "I got my suit covered in mud/ink; I got mud/ink"

La diferencia la hace el sentirme o no responsable de lo que me ha pasado:

En la primera oración soy "víctima del destino", el mundo me ha sido adverso y la mancha llegó sin que yo pudiera hacer nada para evitarlo.

En la segunda oración asumo mi completa responsabilidad de haber manchado el traje que traía puesto.

Take a look here at uses of "se" and see the one related with involuntary/accidental/fate-related events.
