Antes de lo que se tarda en decir amén

Hi,

I guess it's something like "before he could say Jack Robinson". What does it mean literally?

This is an idiomatic expression (idiom). Its meaning is 'a short amount of time.'

Literally:
antes de = before (earlier than)
lo que se tarda en = the duration of time (on someone's part) = how long it takes one/someone
decir amén = to say 'amen'

There are many other ways to say this (all are idiomatic expressions):
en menos de un decir amén (en menos que se dice amén)
en un santiamén
en un decir amén
en un decir Jesús (en un Jesús)
en un abrir y cerrar de ojos
en menos que canta un gallo (en el tiempo que tarda un gallo en cantar)
en un suspiro
en un periquete
a todo gas
a toda pastilla
