Usted - parents

Is it usual that children address their parents and older family members with "usted"? I'm watching some telenovelas and in one of them they address their parents, uncles, aunts etc. with tú, but in pretty much any other telenovela they address them with usted.

I'm sorry if such question already exists in the forum, if so, I'll delete this thread.

It is regional, and also within a region depends on how you were brought up. In my country, Chile, when I was growing up I had some friends who treated their parents as "my old folks", "old lady" and "old man", it started to become trendy in the 60's, I tried once. i was left "looking north" for several days....
