¿Será que tenemos algo en común?

Hi,
I have a friend in Puerto Rico, and we have been communicating in Spanish via facebook.

This is not too important, but I always want to understand exactly what she means in Spanish. If someone could give me an accurate translation based on the context of what she wrote I would be very grateful.

I sent her a picture I took that was the exact same as the one she had taken somewhere in Mexico. I wrote:

Por lo menos parace que tenemos la misma filosofia de la fotografia en tepoztlan. Bien padre esta caminata

She wrote:
jeje sera que tenemos algo en comun?

esa es mi favorita! tengo la misma en teotihuacan.

I was wondering if "jeje sera que tenemos algo en comun?" is a rhetorical question or a real question. What does that translate to exactly?

My best literal guess is: "it would be that we have something in common?" if that is it, why did she put a question mark?

I wrote "por lo menos..." at the beginning of my message because in our last message she had said I had not taken enough photographs in Puerto Rico. I then explained my style of photography. i thought maybe that was different than hers, but then we had the same style in mexico.

Because I wrote "por lo menos" I was wondering if "sera que tenemos algo en comun?" is more like a question that means: "are you surprised that we have something in common?"

If anyone could give me a good translation of "sera que tenemos algo en comun?" and tell me whether it is a real question or rhetorical question, I would be very thankful.

Thanks
Wras

Apparently you're not using accent marks when you're corresponding. When you're typing here, you can use the 'Accents' drop-down menu just above where you type. It contains all the special characters you need to use while typing in Spanish.

¿Será que tenemos algo en común?
= I wonder if we have something in common.

The third-person future indicative form of 'ser', used in a question, is the Spanish equivalent of the English "I wonder if" phrase.

To answer the thread title, which I changed so that members can search on the topic contained in your post, this doesn't sound like a rhetorical question to me.

Ah Perfect. That translation of "I wonder" makes a lot of sense.

So it sounds like she might be being sarcastic in this context?

If so, not surprising ha.
Thanks

It is a rhethorical question. She's stating that you both have the same kind of vision or taste for photos. She's saying she has the same kind of picture in another place.
