This should be al or el?

In this sentence "Ellos dejan al perro dormir en su cama", why perro has A in front of EL? I thought perro is direct object of DEJAR. Can someone explain to me, please?

Thanks

The 'perro' is the indirect object in this sentence. 'Dejar' takes both a direct object - 'dormir en su cama' - and an indirect object - 'al perro'.

What is allowed? - Sleeping
To whom is it allowed? - the dog
