Is the appropriate way of translating government grant " Subvención gubernamental" ?

"Subvención gubernamental" estaría bien, aunque algunas veces su usa "aportes del gobierno" para evitar entrar en la naturaleza jurídico-financiera de ellos.

I like "subvención gubernamental". Here people can also say "apoyo", "aportación" ("aporte" sounds strange for us) or "donación" (when it's non-refundable).
Instead of "gubernamental" you could also say "por parte del gobierno".

En España se usa "subvención gubernamental", así como "subvención del gobierno" o "subvención estatal"...
