Es un óptimo modo para aprender el idioma sobre todo si lo puede ejercer a cada instante para verificar los progresos hechos, cosa que algunos no lo pueden hacer por vivir en países donde el inglés no se habla por las calles.
Creo que el dominio de la segunda lengua llega cuando se comienza a pensar en ella y a confundirla con la lengua materna.

Eso era muy válido cuando llegué en 1979, pero hoy en día con el internet, ya casi no lo es. Obvio que la gente no habla inglés en las calles pero con el internet hay gente que está incluso más interesada en idiomas en general.

Hace 30 años atrás habría sido imposible encontrar una película en inglés sin subtítulo en castellano...

You're right sometimes book studying can be boring. I'm at that point too. You gotta mix it up. Make games for yourself invent new ways to incorporate Spanish into your daily life. Have you seen the Firefly Spanish/English Visual dictionary of pictures? Get Spanish scrabble, do a language exchange over skype. Or, my personal favorite - start teaching what you know to other people - it forces you to think of the language in different ways.
