*cough* It might help to know that originally, the digraph wh and the consonant w were different sounds, and the wh was originally hw in Old English. So all old words such as what where why who which when etc. start with this old hw consonant. Nouns which joined the language later have the other consonant w. In some dialects, the two consonants are pronounced differently. Or perhaps this does not help.
